1. Who we are

Lingo Café is operated by Marco Pegoraro, an individual based in Malmö, Sweden. References to "we", "us", or "our" in these Terms refer to Marco Pegoraro.

2. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating an account on read.lingocafe.app or by using either of our digital surfaces, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

These Terms form a binding contract between you and Marco Pegoraro. You must actively accept them during account registration — continued use alone does not constitute acceptance for new users.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Lingo Café. By accepting these Terms, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If we become aware that an account is held by a person under 16, we will close it and delete the associated data.

4. Your account

Registration. You may register using Google Sign-In or an email address and password. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that takes place under your account.

One account per person. You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent access restrictions or programme eligibility requirements.

Accurate information. You must provide truthful and accurate information when registering. Accounts created with false information may be closed without notice.

Account closure by you. You may close your account at any time by contacting us at privacy@lingocafe.app. What happens to your data on closure is described in our Privacy Policy.

5. The service

What Lingo Café offers. Lingo Café provides graded readers — simplified adaptations of classic literature — for language learners at beginner and intermediate level (CEFR A2). Books are currently available in the following languages: English, Italian, Spanish, German, French, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

⚠️ OPEN ITEM: The reader app currently shows 5 languages in the interface (English, Italian, Spanish, German, Swedish). Danish, French, and Norwegian should be confirmed as live before this list is published.

Alpha / pre-launch status. Lingo Café is currently in early access. The service is provided as-is, without any guarantee of uptime, continuity, or feature availability. We may add, modify, or remove features at any time without prior notice.

No guaranteed availability. We do not commit to any specific level of service availability during the alpha period. We will endeavour to minimise disruption but accept no liability for downtime or data loss.

6. Intellectual property

Our content. The simplified adaptations, translations, and editorial content published on Lingo Café are the intellectual property of Marco Pegoraro / Lingo Café. All rights are reserved.

Source texts. The underlying literary works adapted for Lingo Café are in the public domain. Our adaptations and simplifications of those works are original works and are protected by copyright.

Your use. Access to content through the Lingo Café reader is granted for your personal, non-commercial reading only. You may not reproduce, redistribute, scrape, download in bulk, or otherwise exploit any Lingo Café content outside of normal reading use.

7. Purchases

Amazon / KDP. Some Lingo Café titles are available for purchase as eBooks through Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing platform. These purchases are made directly with Amazon and are governed by Amazon's own terms and conditions. Lingo Café is not a party to those transactions and accepts no responsibility for them.

Free app access. Access to the Lingo Café reader app is currently free. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers in the future, with at least 30 days' notice to existing users.

8. Alpha Reader Programme

The Alpha Reader Programme offers free, unlimited access to the Lingo Café reader while the app is in development, in exchange for active participation in feedback activities.

Removal from the programme does not constitute termination of your Lingo Café account. Your account and reading progress are retained. Access reverts to whatever tier is available to standard users at that time.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Reproduce, redistribute, or publish any Lingo Café content without our written permission
Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract content from either surface
Attempt to circumvent authentication, access controls, or account restrictions
Create multiple accounts to gain access you would not otherwise be entitled to
Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in any way that violates applicable law
Infringe the intellectual property rights of Lingo Café or any third party

10. Termination by us

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently close your account if we reasonably believe you have violated section 9, provided false information at registration, or breached applicable law.

For serious violations (particularly copyright infringement or illegal activity), we may act without prior notice. In other cases, we will endeavour to give you reasonable warning before taking action.

Termination does not affect any rights or obligations that arose before the date of termination.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Lingo Café is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Marco Pegoraro shall not be liable for:

Loss of data or reading progress due to technical failure
Interruption or discontinuation of the service
Any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from use of the service

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other matter that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify you by email or in-app notification before the changes take effect. Continued use of Lingo Café after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance.

If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you may close your account before they take effect.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Swedish courts, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.

If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you also have the right to use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.
